Show Horse Feed
Show horse, apart from the pressurized practice sessions which they undergo to be able to move as gracefully and beautifully as possible, must have muscular, trimmed and shining bodies. It is true that they do not have the same heavy training sessions that racing or jumping horses have, but still they must be fed specifically for their (at least) one-hour a day sessions. In addition, having a robust, strong and shining body is what a standard concentrate must bring about.
The ration and energy ingredients of show horses must be in a way that they not only meet the energy requirements of the animal but also keep it energized all through the competitions. Also, the concentrate must not stress out the animal. Thus, it must be balanced in terms of its energy, protein, fat, vitamin and minerals.
Show horses’ features
In the production of show horse feed, grains are steam-boiled so that their starch will be as available as possible. Moreover, flaked barleys and corns are added to reach an optimal energy level. Through flaking, barley and corn digestability rate increase from 23-25% to 80-90%. Furthermore, the applied oily sunflower seeds which contain 26% fat, will provide the animal with a reliable energy source without making it irritable, as some other grains do. In the process of making this feed, roasted full fat soy is also used. This ingredient, besides having high levels of energy, is a rich source of vital proteins and amino-acids
